As its name indicates, Talmont is located on the Garonne estuary, the Gironde. It is already quite wide in this area. The village is built atop cliffs overlooking the estuary. It dates back from the 10th centuy. During the middle ages, the village was a stronghold, entirely fortified.
Talmont has been named "one of the most beautiful villages of France", a quite sought after distinction. It is famous for its large Roman Church: Sainte Radegonde, built near the shore and visible from quite far.
