The City of Nice is an ancient one. It was founded by the greeks around 350 BC. Its original name was Nikaia, derived from Nike, goddess of victory. It is now one of the largest cities of Southern France, second only to Marseilles. Its most picturesque areas are the old town and surrounding area, and the world renowned Promenade des Anglais.
