Chantilly castle from the back
Caption
This view is taken from the back of the castle of Chantilly. From this basin, the castle looks impressive, yet elegant. This is the place where François Vatel, who was maître d'hotel of the Grand Condé, committed suicide before a meal attented by Louis XIV, simply because he feared the fish would not be delivered on time for dinner and was too consciencious to stand it. According to the movie I saw (where Vatel is played by Gérard Depardieu), the fish finally arrived on time and Vatel died in vain.
